What would make you read a personal finance blog?

Question by jlstitt: What would make you read a personal finance blog?
I’m thinking of starting a personal finance blog. The types of topics I plan to cover are: budgeting, building wealth, risk management, asset management, and other topics that, admittedly, can be a bit “dry” to many people. I want to attract a wide variety of people, not just bean-counters; I’d like it to be for everyone. What would it take to make you read a blog like that? Humor? Some additional, more interesting topics? Bios of wealthy people? Contests?

Best answer:

Answer by ryan 7
It would have to be different. Anyone can recycle the same old dogma of diversify your stock portfolio etc., etc. There are probably lots of blogs in this field so yours would have to be unique. Fun ways to save money or to make money to invest would be something people might be interested in as opposed to take money from your paycheck and invest in stocks blah, blah blah.

Catholic School Officials Gather in San Antonio to Begin the Revitalization Of U.S. Catholic Schools

Catholic School Officials Gather in San Antonio to Begin the Revitalization Of U.S. Catholic Schools

(PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Catholic school administrators gathered in San Antonio February 8 to address new research and important opportunities in the growth of the U.S. Catholic school system. Hosted by the consulting firm O’Meara Ferguson, Whelan and Conway (O’Meara Ferguson), the three-day event, “Sustaining the Mission: Integrating Finance, Development, Planning, and Operations to Strengthen Catholic Education” will assist Catholic school systems in designing financial management plans while maintaining their Catholic mission and identity.

The symposium follows the recent release of “Revitalizing Catholic Schools”, a report by O’Meara Ferguson that provides statistical analysis of more than 400 Catholic schools throughout the Midwest. This data analyzes financial and operational data in Catholic schools, identifying key opportunities for financial success. Findings from the report include:

Many struggling Catholic schools do not have enough students enrolled at the right tuition rates to pay the bills while addressing mounting maintenance and fixed operating costs. In many situations, especially at older schools, pastors and principals see additional students as added costs for teachers, aides, and supplies; and so are reluctant to increase enrollment. This zero sum game approach leads to underutilized schools with empty seats and lost opportunities for thousands of children.

Underutilized schools, long thought to be the result of changing demographics and higher tuition rates, are in truth a management opportunity. While demographics and increasing costs may indeed play a role in the demand for Catholic education, enrollment is in fact, far more dependent on management behavior and sound revenue management practices.

Began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller at the San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest continually functioning church in North America, and continuing at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter, the symposium brings together 50 school systems from across the country, joined by their goal to proactively address these challenges, other issues and new opportunities specific to the Catholic school system.

“The goal of our work is to collect and analyze real time school data in tell to furnish mechanisms that drive positive results,” said Patrick O’Meara, President and Founder of O’Meara Ferguson and co-author of the report.

Each attendee, in addition to hearing expert speakers and peer commentary, will receive a new publication from O’Meara Ferguson, “Sustaining the Mission: A Manual to Revitalize Our Catholic Schools”. A “manual” for attendees, it provides diagnostics, exercises and strategies that address the conditions revealed in the initial report.

“We’re sharing the tools to develop practical, actionable solutions that yield sustainable operating and capital structures which can provide contemporary solutions and new opportunities to millions of students, their educators, and thousands of parishes across the country,” O’Meara said.

About O’Meara Ferguson Whelan and Conway
Our mission is to provide Catholic organizations with advice and counsel on the outflank potential use of their temporal resources as they work to further their missions. O’Meara, Ferguson, Whelan, and Conway integrates specifically crafted financial strategies, unmatched access to capital financing alternatives, investment management advice, and stewardship-based fundraising advising to manage and leverage financial assets to constructing our clients’ fiscal strength and independence.

Memoir ?Autobiography of an Agoraphobic? Tells Author?s Remarkable Story

Memoir “Autobiography of an Agoraphobic” Tells Author’s Remarkable Story

Lombard, Ill. (PRWEB) February 08, 2012

Michael R. Patrick was a healthy young man attending DePaul University when he experienced an episode of shortness of breath, palpitations, chest pain and dizziness. Patrick thought that he was going to die. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was misdiagnosed as having suffered from hyperventilation and a panic attack. This misdiagnosis led Patrick into the tumultuous period of his life that served as inspiration for his book, “Autobiography of an Agoraphobic: One Man’s Struggle with Panic Disorder” (published by AuthorHouse), which he hopes will spare others from the physical and genial pain he endured.

The hospital sent Patrick to a psychiatrist, who he sees clearly nowadays as “incompetent” and “a bully.” After spending six years with the psychiatrist and repeatedly being told to “get over it,” Patrick finally determine to seek new help. His new psychiatrist propose that he see 1 of the top cardiologists in Chicago and the Midwest. Using a special technique, the doctor listening to Patrick’s chest and noticed a grade two murmur and a click in his mitral valve, diagnosing him with mitral valve prolapse. Missed almost a 3rd of the clocked by an echocardiogram, Patrick was fortunate to be in the hands of a cardiologist who remarked, “There is no substitute for a good set of ears.”

The stress of the misdiagnosed panic attacks had caused Patrick severe depression, isolation, frustration and led to agoraphobia, a fear of open spaced. After years of these spells and difficult side effects, Patrick finally had an answer. The diagnosis explained the panic attacks, chest pain and shortness of breath. He was put on a beta-blocker, which eradicated his mitral valve prolapse symptoms. Patrick had his life back. Although he still deals with agoraphobia, it is much more manageable. For all practical purposes, Patrick considers himself cured.

He credits for his recovery not only accurate medical diagnosis, but also God, who helped him to become “whole again.” Patrick looks to God as the impetus for writing his book, which he hopes will keep as many people as possible from suffering and dying needlessly from mitral valve prolapse.

“Michael R. Patrick has provided us with a wealth of information about the little known, but widespread, mental illness of agoraphobia,” writes Father Andrew Miles. “More importantly, he has shared a very personal and moving testimony of how God brings healing to this illness and how He brings good out of every trial.”

Boca Raton Roofing Service helps Homeowners With Free Roof Inspections and These Easy Tips for Finding a Good Roofing Contractor.

Boca Raton Roofing Service helps Homeowners With Free Roof Inspections and These Easy Tips for Finding a Good Roofing Contractor.

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) January 31, 2012

Jason Blair, a representative of Free Roofing Pro (a free Boca Raton roofing service), tells us “If a roofing contractor is having money problems, those problems can rapidly be passed on to an unsuspicious homeowner.”

This is an all too familiar story from South Florida that makes homeowners terrified of hiring the wrong roofing contractor. The truth is that fifty-fifty good roofing contractors can mess things up.

Here are some tips from Free Roofing Pro on how to find a good roofing contractor:
1. Visit their offices. You can tell a lot from their place of business.
2. Talk to their suppliers. If they pay their suppliers, they probably pay the rest of their charge.
3. Talk to their employees. If their employees aren’t getting paid on time, it is a red flag.
4. Check for liens. Multiple liens that are filed can be a sign of financial difficulties, or poor service.
5. Check your city and see how many permits they pull a year?
6. Check their license at MyFloridaLicense.com
7. Make sure their insurance covers roofing, and that their workers’ comp covers a list of in house employees, or that the subcontractors have workers’ comp to cover their in house employees. Contractors need to provide all insurance certificates upon request.
8.    Some companies have general construction insurance, and that is not the same as roofing. Their insurance award must say roofing specifically or it is not covered. Most municipalities are unaware of this or simply ignore it.

“It is a lot to consider, and just think – you need to do this until you find 3-4 good contractors. Who has the time for all that? This is the reason why people get scammed. It is nearly impossible for a homeowner to be 100% sure what they are getting into when hiring a roofing contractor.” he says.

Mr. Blair adds “even if you call someone like Service Magic, or check on Angies’ List, you still have to find the time to meet with 3-4 contractors and compare the proposals. It can be very time consuming. In the end you still may not get all the info we can provide you, or the coaching you need to get the job done right.”

“We provide free roof inspections, advice, and citing. We are not selling you anything. We simply come out, survey your roof, and say you what we think. If you need a good roofing contractor, we can find one for you, if not that is ok too.”

“We provide a free roof inspection and give you a written evaluation. If you like we can then write up the scope of work, get all the pricing, research the companies, and provide a previous customer report, all for free. You choose which proposal you like and we do the rest. All the paperwork is already done and the colors are picked so it expedites the entire process. We collect a small fee from the chosen roofing contractor for bringing him the work. There is never a charge to you from us.”

If you would like more information about Free Roofing Pro and their services, you can visit them on the web at http://www.FreeRoofingPro.com or call them toll free at 877-593-6656
